East Under 18s win North West Youth Cup East Under 18s win North West Youth Cup

Simon Reynolds Under 18s were in action at Thatto Heath yesterday in the final of the North West Youth Cup.

They swept to a 28-0 advantage at half-time and continued to boss the game in the second half, scoring eleven tries in total on route to an impressive 52-12 victory over Portico Vine.

Portico had much of the early ball and field position before three quick-fire tries had East 16-0 clear. Three more tries came before the break and another five were scored in the second half as East won this trophy for the first time since 2002.

David Griffiths opened the scoring for East with a powerful finish on the left. Hooker Carter Quigley then plundered a try from dummy half. Alex Leadbetter goaled to make it 10-0.

Full back Brad Holroyd was next to the line, picking up the pieces after his opposite number didn't react in time to the bounce from a high kick.

Griffiths claimed his second try and was soon followed by George Hutton and Corey Hamer before the break.

Will Ludlow continued the rout after half-time for Leadbetter to convert and although Portico scored the first of two consolation tries, East were too strong.

Eventual Man-of-the-Match Brad Whelan blazed through the defence to make it 38-6 and another emphatic finish by Hutton made it 42-6.

Portico continued to battle and claimed a well deserved second try but East finished the game well with further scores from Connor Wilcock and Hamer.
