Seaton beat East in NCL Seaton beat East in NCL

Seaton Rangers 38 Leigh East 12

By Dave Parkinson

A much-changed Leigh East side travelled up to Cumbria on Saturday to take on Seaton Rangers for the first time in NCL history.

The club was successful in its application and has enjoyed a solid start to the season and this was a continuation.

The hosts took the lead after six minutes when Jordan O'Leary touched down for a try converted by Dom Smallwood. Despite the lack of points, it was an open half and East responded after half an hour when Kieron Prescott finished and Adam Holland goaled. At 6-6 it was a close encounter, but the hosts took the lead just before half-time through Jon Carl Bryan, and again Smallwood was on target.

East trailed 12-6 at half-time but it was Seaton that extended their advantage through Lewis Mason. Dom Smallwood again goaled and added a penalty to make it 20-6 and East's cause wasn't helped when Anthony Nicholls was dismissed for punching after 58 minutes. Almost immediately Gary Taylor stretched away and Smallwood made it 26-6.

East rallied with Prescott to the fore again and his second try goaled by Holland closed the deficit after 62 minutes.

Two converted tries in the last five minutes brought a strong finish from Seaton as Taylor and Mark Surtees found their way over for Smallwood to convert and finish with seven goals.

East now host Division Three leaders East Leeds at Ledgard Avenue this coming Saturday, kick-off 2:30pm.
