A fast start to the game resulted in a early try scored by Leigh East making it 4 - 0. However, handling errors in consecutive sets allowed Oldham to cross over the line taking the lead 6 - 4. Following the try Leigh East stepped up the pace and quality crossing for three unanswered tries before half time.

It was evident that Oldham would come out firing in the second half looking for an early try to mount the come back. However, Leigh East would be the first team to cross the try line in the second half putting the game out of Oldhams grasp. Credit must be given to Oldham as they continued to battle until the end of the game and deservedly picked up another late try. In the end it was Leigh East who crossed for the final try under the Oldham sticks right on the full time whistle. Overall the game proved to be a good contest played in the right spirit. Final result 34 - 12.
