Leigh East claimed a notable win over Woolston Rovers at Ledgard Avenue. Louis Else and Andrew Ball were in good form for the hosts who also had the kicking boots of skipper Adam Holland to thank.

Holland kicked six goals (including three penalties), to help East to victory.

The visitors scored first when big centre Lewis Hoarty forced his way over on the left and stand-off Aaron Barber converted. East replied at the end of the first quarter. Ball was stopped short but managed to smuggle the ball free and two tackles later Danny Griffiths did well to hold onto a late pass from Holland and go between two defenders for a try. Holland goaled and was on target again moments later when Ellis Noon broke from a scrum on his own twenty-metre line and handed on to Griffiths who outpaced three chasers to the try line. East led 12-6 but two lapses in discipline by Woolston Rovers were punished by Holland and the goal successes made it 16-6 at half-time.

Rovers made a bright start to the new half when Callum Moore supported some elusive running to go over for a try but the crucial play came eighteen minutes from time when Louis Else powered into the defence and burst free from just inside his own half before offloading for the supporting Noon. In turn, the centre hit cruise control to get away from the chasers and Holland completed his goal-kicking for the game.

Woolston continued to battle away, and had the final word when substitute Alex Smith barged through from close range in the last minute. Although Barber added his second goal, there was not enough time left and Leigh East won through.
