Rylands 34-6 Leigh East u10s

Another disappointing day at the office for Leigh East U10s against another well organised and tough Rylands team, a very slow start from our boys let Rylands in early doors an half time score of 12-0 in which we were confident of coming back into the game but poor defensive line and lack of ideas cost us before we knew it they went into a commanding 0-34 lead, but we did manage to get a score late on which was too little too late , final score 6-34.

Conv: A.Balmer

MOM: F.Jackson & J.Cockle

Most Tackles: J.Lee (15)

We go again next week and train hard.

Leigh East u11s 38-12 Chorley Panthers

Leigh East under 11s convincingly beat Chorley in a game where 6 different players scored and 4 kicked goals. East lead from the start with a break away try from Jacob Blower which was the beginning of a 6 un answered trys from Ryan Kelleher, Joe Ganley, Will Nguimbi, and Leon fletcher 2. The Chorley boys then came back with 2 converted scores but Jacob Blower finished with a try in the corner to finish the game on a high note. Leigh east fielded 21 players with Elliot Holbrook making his debut. Next week we play Golborne in the annual fun day

Woolston 0-26 Leigh East u12s

East started the game brightly despite already being down to 12 players, with Bailey Pemberton and Corey Higgins out injured. A great first set, resulting in crisp passing through several pairs of hands to put Ewan Smith in near the left corner flag with a strong finish. The Leigh side then put in a strong tackling stint to keep their 4-0 lead. One such tackle though, resulting in a nasty clash of heads between Nathan Southern and Adam Ismaiel - saw Southern taken off with concussion and Ismaiel continuing on bravely with a partially closed eye. After the delay, East were soon back on the attack and on the 5th tackle, a kick towards the left corner by Charlie Westwell almost put Smith in again at the corner.

Leigh soon increased their lead to 8-0 when Flynn Togher-Horne came up with a 60 metre cracker of a solo try in which he showed a clean pair of heels to at least three defenders. With Connor Floyd running the ball in strongly and George Robertson putting some big tackles in, the away side looked favourites at the break. Joshua Woods was doing a strong job on the right wing to complement Ewan Smith's attacking work down the left. Tommy Ridyard and Harry Higham were keeping their team ticking over nicely by drawing the opposition on and letting the ball go with good timing to keep Woolston on the defensive. Any signs of danger were snuffed out by some superb last ditch  tackles from the likes of Westwell, Ismaiel and Declan Bullough who was knocking them down like nine-pins.

Leigh East started the second half as if they were on a mission to make up for being two  players down, Smith soon going over for his second on the left flank after more great work from Togher-Horne (the conversion from Westwell putting the visitors 14-0 up just seconds after the restart). Six minutes later and there was another great passing movement from right to left, this time resulting in a clever dummy and good finish from Reece Cumming to take it to 18-0.

East weren't finished yet though, some swift passing again saw Togher-Horne cross for his well-deserved second try. Then, with just seconds remaining, Cumming took a bouncing ball in his stride and went over on the left after a clever grubber from Westwell helped to seal a convincing away win. A final score of 26-0  probably reflecting the best team performance of the season so far.

Parents MOTM: Flynn Togher-Horne, pushed close by Ewan Smith.

Coaches MOTM: Adam Ismaiel.
